All students at Discovery Polytech Early College High School earn credits towards graduation through a combination of traditional high school level courses and college courses as they work towards a high school diploma and college degree. While enrolled at DHS, students can earn up to 60 transferable college credits for FREE (completion of an Associate's Degree or credits towards a Bachelor's degree). Students need 24.5 credits to meet Massachusetts High School Graduation Requirements.
Our diverse faculty members (a combination of counselors, college professors, general high school, special education and English for second language learners educators) are professional educators who are passionate about teaching and committed to their students' success. They bring years of experience and a wealth of knowledge to the classroom, and are dedicated to helping each student reach their full potential.
Students must earn four credits each in English and Mathematics, three credits each in Science, Social Studies/Social Sciences, two credits each in Foreign Language and Physical Education, one credit each in Fine Arts and Technology, .5 credit of Health and the remaining credits are electives.
Students who fail to earn the credit for a class must attend summer session to receive additional hours of instruction in the course and the chance to raise the failing grade to a passing grade.
Academic Students who receive grades below two have not mastered the course material and thus are at risk of entering into academic probation.
Competencies for Discovery Polytech Early College High School students represent their mastery of knowledge and content in the subject areas. A student’s possession of content knowledge guides his or her success in applying the knowledge in performance assessments. In the course syllabus, teachers specify the expectations for a passing grade.
